Flex Tents

Technology
Our Flex tents are crafted using the latest zero-memory synthetic waterproof fabrics. At the heart of this advanced material is a robust 4-way polyamide knit, which allows the fabric to stretch without retaining any “memory” that could distort its shape. When pressure is released, the fabric naturally returns to its original form, ensuring no distortions after multiple uses. A polyurethane (PU) coating adds enhanced waterproofing, UV protection, and flame retardancy. All Flex Q2 tents feature a double-sided PU coating for added durability.

Clamps
Each Flex Q2 tent is supplied with a complete clamp kit, including all necessary hardware. The clamps securely hold the fabric’s edge by squeezing an elastic cord, which is permanently welded into the tent’s perimeter. These clamps can be repositioned along the edge of the tent, offering easy setup, customization, and an infinite number of anchor points. The kit also includes a complete set of ropes and stakes, allowing you to pitch the tent in its classic configuration with all four sides raised. However, we encourage you to explore your creativity—Flex tents can be set up in countless ways, from attaching them to buildings to setting them up on beaches, over pools, rooftops, patios, or in your backyard.

Poles
Flex tents offer endless possibilities for customization, much like giant blanket forts—poles can be adjusted to create various shapes, heights, and entrance configurations to suit your needs.

Each Flex Q2 tent comes with two pole adaptor sets: one for the accessory metal poles sold by CanvasCamp, and another for adapting wooden poles that you provide. The set also includes pole bases for securing poles on hard surfaces or protecting wooden decks.

Modular Aluminum Pole Sets
Our modular aluminum poles are highly portable and come in two color options: aluminum and green.

While the aluminum poles are easy to transport, many customers opt for the natural aesthetics of wood or bamboo poles. These furniture-grade wooden poles provide a warm, rustic look and are often more affordable when sourced locally. Many suppliers who cater to farm fencing will cut custom wooden poles to your specifications at competitive prices—sometimes even lower than the cost of our accessory poles.

Using Wood or Bamboo Poles
If you choose wooden or bamboo poles, ensure all interior pole ends are capped with our dome-shaped pole tops to avoid fabric damage. Pole-top adaptors must be screwed into the ends of each wooden pole (wood screws not included) to secure the pole tops in place. When assembling the clamps, avoid using the metal pole adaptors—expose the bolt that holds the clamp together. Perimeter poles must be drilled to 1.25 cm (1/2”) so the bolt fits securely.

Stakes: 80cm (31.5in) vs. 110cm (43in)
Stakes are essential for securing your Flex tent. For the best pitch, you’ll want to maximize the depth of the stake in the ground. Stakes are available in two lengths: 80cm (31.5in) and 110cm (43in).

Flex tents are large sails that need to be properly tensioned for safety. Tie-downs should be connected to a firm anchor point, typically a stake.

Choosing Stake Length

  • 80cm (31.5in): Ideal for very hard ground and smaller tents (up to 8.5 x 10m / 28 x 33ft).
  • 110cm (43in): Best for soft ground (like sand, grass, or dirt), large tents, and windy conditions. Keep in mind that rain can soften the ground, so plan accordingly.

Note: Drive stakes so that no more than 5 inches of the top remain above ground. A sledgehammer is recommended (not included).

Tie Downs: Straps vs. Ropes
Straps:

  • Pro: More affordable.
  • Con: Difficult to adjust; cam buckles release tension quickly, making it challenging to fine-tune the tension. Straps also require assistance, as pulling tension can pull the stake out of the ground.

Ropes:

  • Pro: Easier to adjust tension; micro-adjustments are possible using carabiners with cams. Pulling tension down away from the tent helps stabilize the stake, making it easier to set up alone.
  • Con: More expensive.

With ropes, tensioning is less likely to dislodge the stakes, and the setup process is easier, especially for solo users.
