Description

Four-Season Use in All Climates
The Refuge Tent System is built to withstand the most extreme conditions. Constructed with a high-density vinyl polyester canopy, the tent is waterproof, mold-resistant, and UV-treated. Both the tent and its floor are resistant to chemical disinfectants and deep cleaning.

The heavy-duty galvanized steel frame is designed to endure gale-force winds of up to 100 km/h (60 mph, 52 knots) and can hold up to 25 kg/m² (5 lb per square foot) of snow for 6 hours. A host of thoughtful features allows the tent to be adapted quickly and easily for comfort in a range of environments – from biting cold and heavy snow to searing heat and sandstorms.

Scalable Shelter Systems
A system is defined as a set of things working together as parts of a mechanism or an interconnecting network. Two or more Refuge Tents create a Refuge Tent System. Each unit is designed to perform independently as a free-standing shelter, or as part of a larger structure.

Refuge tents can be connected end-to-end by docking the frame poles. All tents are identical in height and width, with the only variance being the length, which allows for flexible arrangement in any order. When connected, the walls can be left in place to create multi-room structures, or removed entirely to create a clear, continuous, and unobstructed space.

The scalability of the Refuge Tent System extends to logistics as well. A single self-contained box contains all the parts and tools needed for each tent. These boxes are standardized in length and width for easy transportation. Multiple tents can be packed and shipped efficiently in standard 20ft or 40ft shipping containers.

Set Up
The Refuge is designed for quick pitching by a small crew of average strength within 20-60 minutes. Everything needed to pitch the tent is included in the box, with the only tool required being a hammer (also included). The assembly and usage instructions provide clear visual, step-by-step directions, ensuring they are easily understood in any language. Inspired by disaster relief tent designs, the Refuge is made to be pitched anywhere, anytime, and by anyone.

3-Layer Window System
Massive floor-to-ceiling windows line the walls of the Refuge Tent, each featuring a 3-layer protection system to adapt quickly to changing weather conditions.

  • Mesh Layer: To combat heat, every window is backed by durable, mosquito-proof mesh, providing ample light, fresh air, and visibility.
  • Plastic Layer: A clear plastic layer can be deployed to block driving rain without obstructing views or adding insulation in colder conditions.
  • Storm Door: The outermost storm door seals tightly with hook-and-loop tape (formerly known as Velcro) to protect against extreme weather. Guy lines secure the doors at a steep angle, striking a balance between weather protection and airflow. On perfect days, storm doors can be rolled up and stored neatly.

Storm Doors
Full-size doors on either end of the Refuge offer easy access to the outside or to a connected tent. Equipped with the same 3-layer protection system as the windows, these doors are fitted with no-see-um mesh, a clear plastic rain cover, and a weatherproof storm flap. Multiple side-release buckles secure the doors to the tent walls or store rolled-up door layers overhead for quick deployment.

Ventilation
Large no-see-um mesh-backed vents above every window and door allow for ample airflow. Eaves extend over the vents to block light rain and sun in mild weather, while storm flaps can be secured to protect the vents in winter, heavy rain, snow, or dust storms.

Stove Jack
Each tent comes pre-installed with a stove jack for compatibility with wood-burning stoves, electric heaters, air conditioners, or air purifiers. A heat-resistant sleeve extends into the tent, securing tightly around flue pipes or exhaust hoses of any size to maintain environmental separation between the interior and the outside. It ensures that the bugs, dust, and rain stay outside, while hot or cold air remains inside.

Signage
Built-in hook-and-loop tape (formerly known as Velcro) next to the doors allows for easy attachment of custom signage or branding.

Bathtub-Style Floor
The waterproof groundsheet rises 10 cm (4 inches) up the side wall to provide bathtub-style protection, even in standing water. The floor can be securely attached to the tent with side-release buckles or removed completely when not needed.

Sod Flaps
Extra-long sod flaps extend beyond the tent’s footprint to direct rain and snow runoff away from the structure, preventing pooling beneath the floor.
