Flex Tents: Advanced Technology and Customizable Accessories
Technology
Our Flex tents use cutting-edge, zero-memory synthetic materials, offering exceptional durability and performance. The core of this innovative fabric is a robust 4-way polyamide knit that stretches without retaining any “memory,” meaning it returns to its original shape after use, preventing long-term deformations. A double-sided polyurethane (PU) coating enhances water resistance, provides UV protection, and is flame retardant for added safety.
Clamps
Each Flex Q2 tent includes a full clamp kit with all necessary hardware. These clamps securely grip the fabric by pressing on an elastic cord welded along the tent’s edge. The clamps are easy to adjust and can be moved to any point along the tent’s edge, offering limitless configurations and anchor options. Along with the clamp kit, each tent comes with a full set of ropes and stakes for the traditional setup with raised edges on all sides. Flex tents are highly adaptable and can be attached to buildings, set up on sandy beaches, rooftops, decks, or patios, offering limitless configuration options.
Poles
Think of Flex tents as versatile structures, much like a massive canopy. The poles allow you to adjust heights and shapes, creating customized entrances and spaces.
Every Flex Q2 tent includes two pole adaptor sets—one for our aluminum accessory poles and another for wooden poles that you can source locally. Pole bases are also provided, making it easy to secure poles on hard surfaces or protect delicate flooring.
The modular aluminum pole sets are lightweight and portable, available in two finishes: aluminum and green. Many customers, however, prefer the natural look of wooden or bamboo poles, which provide a warmer aesthetic and are often more cost-effective to source locally. Many fencing supply companies can provide wooden poles tailored to your specifications, sometimes at a lower cost than our metal pole sets.
Using Wood or Bamboo Poles: If you’re using wooden or bamboo poles, be sure to cap each with our dome-shaped tops to protect the tent fabric. Pole-top adaptors should be screwed into each wooden pole (screws not included). Clamps can be assembled without the metal pole adaptors to reveal the bolt that holds the clamp in place. For perimeter poles, drill a 1.25 cm (1/2 inch) hole to accommodate the bolt.
Stakes: 80 cm (31.5 in) vs. 110 cm (43 in)
Stakes are essential for securely anchoring any Flex tent, ensuring the tent stays stable and taut. We offer stakes in two lengths: 80 cm (31.5 in) for hard ground and smaller tents (up to 8.5 x 10 m or 28 x 33 ft), and 110 cm (43 in) for soft ground, larger tents, or windy conditions. Soft ground includes dirt or grass, which can become looser when wet, so plan accordingly.
Note: For optimal security, insert stakes so that no more than 5 inches remain above ground. A sledgehammer is recommended (not included).
Tie-Downs: Straps vs. Ropes
Straps: Straps are made of flat nylon and are used with cam buckles that have small teeth to grip and hold tension. Pulling the free end adds tension, while pressing the cam buckle lever releases it.
- Pros: Straps are generally less expensive.
- Cons: Adjusting straps can be more challenging. Cam buckles quickly release tension, making fine-tuning difficult. Since the buckles are often close to the ground stakes, pulling upwards to add tension can sometimes pull the stake out. For best results, have someone hold the stake down as you tighten.
Ropes: Ropes are made of braided nylon and work with carabiners equipped with cams to maintain tension.
- Pros: Carabiners with cams allow precise tension adjustments, making ropes easier to manage. When tensioning a tent with ropes, the carabiners are placed closer to the pole, allowing you to pull downward, which keeps the stake secure and makes setup manageable for one person.
- Cons: Ropes tend to be more expensive than straps.
