Flex Tents

Technology

Flex tents are crafted from advanced synthetic fabrics designed for durability and waterproofing. At the heart of this material is a robust four-way polyamide knit that stretches without retaining “memory.” This unique property allows the fabric to regain its original shape once the tension is removed, eliminating any distortions even after repeated use. A polyurethane (PU) coating is applied on both sides of the fabric, enhancing its waterproofing capabilities while providing UV resistance and fire retardancy.

Clamps

Each Flex Q2 tent comes fully equipped with a clamp kit and all necessary components. These clamps secure the tent’s edges by gripping an elastic cord that is permanently welded into the fabric. The clamps can be easily repositioned along the edge, offering maximum customization and flexibility for different setups. The tent package also includes a complete set of ropes and stakes to help you pitch it in the classic four-sided raised configuration. Whether setting up near a building, on a beach, over a pool, or in your backyard, the design allows limitless configurations for any space.

Poles

Flex tents function like massive modular canopies, with poles that can be adjusted to create various shapes, heights, and entry points to suit your specific needs.

Every Flex Q2 tent includes two types of pole adaptors: one for the accessory metal poles available from CanvasCamp, and another for wooden poles you can source locally. The kit also comes with bases to securely anchor poles on hard surfaces or protect wooden decks.

Our lightweight aluminum poles are portable and available in two finishes—aluminum or green. However, many customers prefer the natural aesthetic of wood or bamboo. Locally sourced furniture-grade wooden poles provide a warmer, more organic appearance and can often be sourced more affordably than purchasing an accessory pole set. Many farm supply stores offer custom-cut poles to your specifications, often at competitive prices.

Important for wooden/bamboo poles: Ensure all pole ends are capped with our dome-shaped pole tops to avoid damaging the tent fabric. Wooden poles require pole-top adaptors (wood screws not included) to secure the caps. For perimeter poles, drill a 1.25 cm (1/2 inch) hole to attach the clamp bolt securely.

Stakes: 80cm (31.5in) vs. 110cm (43in)

Stakes are vital for anchoring Flex tents securely. Available in two lengths—80 cm (31.5 inches) and 110 cm (43 inches)—these stakes ensure stability in various ground conditions.

  • 80 cm (31.5 inches): Ideal for firm ground or small tents up to 8.5 x 10 m (28 x 33 ft).
  • 110 cm (43 inches): Best for sandy, soft, or muddy terrain and larger tents. Perfect for windy environments, soft ground like grass, or when rain is expected.

Installation Tip: Hammer the stake into the ground, leaving no more than 5 inches exposed above ground for optimal stability. A sledgehammer is recommended for this task but is not included in the kit.

Tie-Downs: Straps vs. Ropes

Straps:
Straps are flat nylon strips threaded through cam buckles with small teeth. To tighten, pull on the loose end of the strap; to release, press the buckle lever.

  • Pros: Affordable and lightweight.
  • Cons: Adjustments can be tricky due to quick tension release, making it hard to fine-tune. When tightening straps, stakes might be pulled out of the ground, so having a helper step on the stake can prevent this issue.

Ropes:
Ropes are durable braided nylon cords used with carabiners featuring cam mechanisms for secure tensioning.

  • Pros: Carabiners make micro-adjustments simple. When securing the tent, ropes are positioned near the pole’s anchor point, pulling downward to stabilize without dislodging the stakes—ideal for solo setups.
  • Cons: Slightly more expensive than straps.
